yes, and... no
There’s a very specific set of rules when it comes to improv comedy. One of them is called “yes, and…”.
Say you’re on stage and someone says, “hey, let’s go to the store and get bananas”
The concept of “yes and…” specifies that to keep the flow of the act running, accepting your fate is important. One might respond, “yes and let’s get some oranges while we’re there.”
If you “no…” it would look like, “no I don’t want to go to the store.”
And that kills the vibe.
So I had an actor tell me that improv. is really not that hard because every conversation and interaction we have is essentially improv.
Tryna get my act to be that “yes and…” kinda improv.
